Sr. Trudy Edgington makes learning fun for students in our early childhood program, which began in the fall of 1998. She holds a B.S. Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education (plus 30 hours) from Spalding University and has over 25 years of teaching experience. Her genuine love of children is readily observed as she works with our youngsters in this day-long program.  Sr. Trudy was selected Teacher of the Year for 2001.

Lucy Hoffman joins Summerville Catholic as our new K-4 teacher.  Lucy has a B.A. in interdisciplinary Studies from Western Governors University and an Associates of Arts in Early Childhood.  She has taught several grade levels in Dorchester County. Lucy has also served in the United States Airforce.  She has a love for young children and plenty of energy and excitement to share.

Shari Capozzi, one of our  K-4 teaching assistants, begins her third year as the right hand of Mrs. Hoffman working with our four-year-olds.

Carol Kyryliuk holds a B.S. Degree from Texas Tech University and her M.ED. from the University of Charleston. Mrs. Kyryliuk is a published author and has written several articles, concerning the integration of literature and cooking in the classroom. She has 20 years teaching experience and has been on our staff for 17 years. She is the elementary coordinator and the kindergarten through 2nd grade chairperson.

Judy Stewart earned a B.S. Degree (plus 12) in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston. This is her 17th year at SCS. Mrs. Stewart enriches her students' learning experiences with many special visitors to her classroom throughout the year.

Theresa "Terry" Freeman is a graduate of Salem State College in Massachusetts. She holds a B.S. Degree (plus 30 hours) in Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Freeman has taught for 27 years and 21 of those have been at Summerville Catholic

Kathleen "Neena" McMahan graduated from Clemson University with a BA in Early Childhood Education.  She has 33 years of experience in public education.  Neena and her husband are very proud of their three children and they have two energetic and adorable grandchildren.  She'll never get tired of telling you about them!  Neena lives in Goose Creek and attend Immaculate Conception Church.

Gayla Current joins Mrs. Freeman and Mrs. McMahan in working with the first graders.  Gayla spent three years working on the SCS staff with the K4 and K5 programs.

Mary Ellen White holds a B.A. Degree from Claflin College and is working on her Master's Degree at the University of Charleston. Mrs. White is certified to teach elementary education, reading and social studies and has over 25 years of teaching experience.

Christine Holahan is in her 10th year on our staff. She received a B.A. Degree from State University of New York at Stony Brook and additional graduate work from Rivier College, Notre Dame, NH and the College of Charleston. She has 15 years of teaching experience in grades kindergarten through 4th grade, including special education. She feels that teaching is the surest way to impact the future. Teaching about God impacts eternity.

Bridget Sobers earned a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.  Mrs. Sobers served as the first grade assistant prior to coming on staff one of our two first grade homeroom teachers.  This year she takes on the third grade.

Patricia (Pat) Parker is a certified teacher and holds a Bachelor Degree from Medaille College in Buffalo, NY and a Masters from Canisius College also in Buffalo.  She comes to us from Erie, PA where she taught 3rd grade at St. George's Catholic School.  Mrs. Parker is in her third year on the SCS staff.

Lou Ann Williamson joins the Summerville Catholic team this year.  She graduated with a B.S. in Education from Millersville State University in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  She has done graduate work at the College of Charleston and the Citadel.  Prior to coming to SCS, Lou Ann taught for 30 years in the Charleston area.  Lou Ann has a passion for teaching and fostering a love of learning.

Lisa Suesser joins Summerville Catholic this year as Mrs. Williamson's assistant in the morning.  She will also be working in the great room during lunchtime and assisting in morning extended care.  She has been a substitute in Dorchester 2 Schools and loves working with children of all ages.

5th Grade

Evelyn Kelly has been at SCS for 15 years. She holds a B.A. in Math and Elementary Education from Hunter College, Bronx, New York and a Master of Science Degree with a Certificate in Reading Remediation from Lehman College (formerly Hunter College in the Bronx). Ms. Kelly had taught in the Bronx for 26 years before coming to SCS.

Helen Stungurys has a B.A. from Pace University and an additional 30 hours from Mary Baldwin College.  Mrs. Stungurys begins her second year with SCS after previously teaching for two years in the Gifted and Talented program in Dorchester County District II.
