Why does Summerville Catholic need to raise money?

All Catholic schools are continually faced with a dilemma: they wish to make Christian education as affordable as possible during a time of increasing educational costs. Summerville Catholic is no exception to this rule. But our case is somewhat different. Southern Catholic schools have traditionally paid a higher percentage of their costs through tuition and fees than Catholic Schools in the rest of the country. As a result SCS, like other Catholic schools in the South, has less funds to use for:

  • improving our physical plant;
  • keeping up with educational technology;
  • providing tuition assistance to our less fortunate brothers and sisters;
  • paying our teachers their true worth.

The 3R’s is one of the ways we use to achieve our goal of bringing quality Christian education to as many children as possible.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes. Shortly after your donation you will receive a letter acknowledging your gift and its tax deductibility.

Why do the PSA and the 3R’s compete?

They don’t. Both organizations exist to benefit Summerville Catholic School. The PSA provides the school with fund-raising dollars that are generated through special events. The 3R’s takes a different approach. We are a development organization who seeks donations from the school community and beyond. The money raised by both organizations goes directly to help Summerville Catholic School.

Will we receive an accounting of the activities of the 3R’s?

Yes. At the end of the campaign all donors will receive a report from the 3R’s organization. That report will provide a full accounting of the receipts, expenses and plans for the use of the proceeds. The report will also acknowledge our donors by name, and will publicly thank them for their generosity.

Can I volunteer to help?

Yes. We are always in need of people who can help us in anyway. There are lots of jobs, and the work is quite rewarding.

May I designate my contribution for a special purpose?

Of course you may. We expect to receive funds for the following special purposes:
provide tuition assistance to qualifying families;
hold tuition increases to a minimum;

  • offer competitive salaries and benefits for our dedicated teachers and staff;
  • purchase textbooks, equipment, and new technology needed to enhance our curriculum;
  • save for future facilities needed for our athletic program and maintain our current building.
But we will honor any request that you have. If you wish to direct your donation toward additional landscaping for the school, new furnishings for the office, amenities for the teachers’ lounge, or any other purpose, we will be glad to honor your request. Our donors are always the boss!

Why do you people work so hard?

We live in troubled times. The Gospel message is harder to hear than ever before. The public schools have closed their doors to God. We want children to be educated in classrooms where God is a welcome guest, and is acknowledged as the reason for our existence. We want our children to learn that God is always there to support them, and that He is the answer to the questions that lie beyond the books that they study.
