Our middle school students participated in the annual Lowcountry Bridge Competition held at The Citadel during National Engineers Week, creating bridges with only wooden craft sticks and carpenters glue.

Summerville Catholic School was recently award new tennis rackets and tennis balls thanks to funding that the city of Charleston received after being named the "Best Tennis Town" in 2010.

Staying Fit Staying fit at Summerville Catholic

Summerville Catholic School fourth and fifth graders have taken a challenge to be more physically fit. They are participating in a series of fine motor and cooperative skills developed through P.E. Central to motivate and encourage a healthier lifestyle. Challenges range from jumping rope to hula-hooping. Each student has set a personal fitness goal for each challenge and is learning the value of not giving up.

Math Night Summerville Catholic School Hosts Math Night

Summerville Catholic School sponsored a night of fun to encourage a love for learning math. Teachers in kindergarten through fifth-grade created games and activities to reinforce math skills that have been taught in class. Children began the evening by estimating how much candy was in the guessing jar. Students then escorted their parents to the classroom for exciting games such as Leprechaun Math, Monkey Multiplication and Base Ten Bingo.

Franklin encourages students to remember three important words: education, explore and expert. Franklin says reading takes education to new heights and explores the world beyond your own backyard.

Summerville Catholic Spreads Halloween Fun At Hallmark

Summerville Catholic School’s Student Council officers recently delivered Halloween cards to the residents of Hallmark Health Care Center in Summerville. Cards made by the students during school art classes were shared with the residents at the Hallmark Halloween party. Student Council officers were thrilled by the reaction of the residents.

SCS Students Spread Peace

Students from Summerville Catholic School joined thousands of people around the world in an annual peace building movement sponsored by the United Nations Sept. 21. Students in grades K4-8 wrote a prayer for peace on a dove then added the prayer to a large globe during the peace ceremony. Only by spreading the idea of a culture of peace can we hope to create lasting change.

SCS Serves The Community

Summerville Catholic School students began the new school year by reaching out to serve the community. This is the third academic year that SCS junior high students have had the opportunity to spend time at the Neighborhood House outreach center on the Charleston peninsula.
Students participated in tasks that included packing grocery bags for needy residents, washing lunch tables or peeling and chopping dozens of hardboiled eggs. However, the most enjoyable responsibility is greeting the 100 or more guests who come for lunch.

Summerville Catholic Holds Annual Pet Blessing

It was raining cats and dogs Monday morning, but that didn’t put a damper on Summerville Catholic School’s annual Blessing of Pets ceremony.

After the morning prayer, students strolled outside and were greeted by their parents, many of whom were accompanied by popular family pets such as dogs, cats and hamsters and others who had less traditional pets like snakes and hermit crabs.
