the history of scs
Summerville Catholic School, founded in 1984, began as an extension of St. John the Beloved Church located in the heart of Summerville, South Carolina. Eighteen families dedicated to the values and faith formation of Catholic education, entrusted their children to Summerville Catholic School. Sister Mary Rose and four teachers guided twenty-eight children, kindergarten through second grade, in building the Gospel values of Christ. For five years the school was in the parish hall, adding a new grade each year. Dedicated parishioners funded the construction of a new school building that would grow to serve the community. In 1988, the school and church community blessed the new school building located on a beautiful 12- acre campus one mile from the church. Today 210 students in K4 through eighth grade are nurtured in their spirit, mind and body.
